Casa Palo Jiote is a newly-constructed contemporary home located on a hillside over-looking beautiful Lake Atitlan, Guatemala. This grand lake (largest in Central America) is framed by ancient mountains and volcanoes and is home to many tropical birds. With an unobstructed view from the house and private lake access, Casa Palo Jiote provides guests with modern comforts and local ambiance.
Near the village of San Marcos la Laguna, the house is accessible via a rustic road or by boat from Panajachel (your starting point) to our private dock. The caretaker, Jesus, will meet you at the dock and provide for handling your luggage. All transportation for guests will be arranged from La Aurora International Airport in Guatemala City to Panajachel and then across the lake to Casa Palo Jiote. Our experienced drivers are sensitive to your needs and speak at least some useful English.
The house is 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms with scenic views of the lake from the deck and balcony. The large well-equipped kitchen offers new, modern appliances including gas stove and oven, full-sized refrigerator with freezer compartment, and dishwasher. The counter-tops are native Guatemalan green marble as is the ample dining surface. Kitchen drawers and cabinets abound with everything from cutlery and dishware to coffee maker, blender, toaster, microwave, pots, pans, and other kitchen goodies.
The living room is fully furnished with both Western comfort and local touches included. Also, notice the stain-glass clerestory window which was custom-designed and created by local artisans in Quetzaltenango. The master bedroom, located upstairs, has amazing views of the night sky, a queen-sized bed with high-grade linens, native blankets and locally-made bedspreads in traditional Mayan patterns. In the evening, you’ll find yourself surrounded in a sea of bright stars.
A guest bedroom is located on the main level and also has a queen –sized bed with equally comfortable linens. This room opens out to one end of the large front balcony. A separate full bath is between this guest bedroom and the third bedroom where we have two single beds beside a small lamp table. Ideal for children. This room has a bay window that provides a viewing point to the lake and is also a cozy reading nook.
Activities at the lake – and there are many — include swimming and playing in the comfortable waters (averaging 21 degrees C); walking and hiking along the lakefront or up a mountainside; renting a kayak or canoe, if you feel adventurous; and, certainly, spending a morning or two, at least, visiting some of the colorful Mayan villages on the shores of Lake Atitlan. Truly delightful! We can make these arrangements for you, as well as guide you in pursuing other interests such as boating, parasailing, and zip-lining.
Casa Palo Jiote has all the amenities necessary for your stay to be pleasant and memorable. Whether you want to swim, explore, or just relax on one of the terraces or in a sun chair on the deck, with any luck at all, you will soon bask in the beauty and peacefulness inherent in this magical place. Bienvenidos!
